Handmade Shutters

Plantation shutters are one of the most enduring and architecturally coherent window treatments available — and when they’re designed, made and fitted correctly, they transform a room. Our shutters are handcrafted in the UK to your exact window dimensions, in a choice of hardwood species and PVC composite materials, across the full range of styles from full height to café, tracked to tier-on-tier. We design, supply and install shutters for residential clients, interior designers and commercial projects across Sussex, Kent, Surrey and London — and every installation is carried out by our own skilled fitting team.

Full height shutters

Full height plantation shutters are the most versatile and popular shutter configuration — covering the complete window from sill to head in a single set of louvred panels that can be opened like a traditional door or adjusted through the louver tilt to any light position between full open and completely closed. The result is precise, repeatable light control that no curtain or blind can match, combined with a clean architectural look that adds genuine character to almost any interior. Our full height shutters are available in standard and wide louvre widths, in both solid panel and louvred configurations, and are made with thermally-rated construction that measurably improves a window's insulating performance.

Café shutters

Café shutters cover the lower half of a window, maintaining complete privacy at street level while leaving the upper half clear to admit maximum natural light — a configuration borrowed from the bistros and townhouses of continental Europe where it has been used to brilliant effect for centuries. Our made-to-measure café shutters are an ideal solution for ground-floor rooms in period properties, terraced houses and apartments where privacy is important but daylight is precious. Available in hardwood and PVC composite, in painted or stained finishes, and custom colour-matched to the property's existing joinery for a fully integrated look.

Tier on tier shutters

Tier-on-tier shutters provide the most granular level of control available in any shutter configuration — two independent sets of panels covering the full window height, with the upper and lower tiers operating completely independently of one another. This means the upper panels can be opened fully to admit maximum light and view whilst the lower panels remain closed for privacy, or vice versa, or any combination between. This makes tier-on-tier shutters the natural choice for rooms where privacy requirements change throughout the day, and for windows at ground-floor level in properties where overlooking is a consideration. When both tiers are fully closed, tier-on-tier shutters also appear more solid than full-height panels — a quality that benefits period properties where a substantial, substantial window treatment is called for.

Tracked shutters

Tracked shutters are the solution for large glazed openings — patio doors, bi-fold doors, sliding doors and wide window bays — where a conventional hinged shutter would project too far into the room or require too much clearance to swing open. Mounted on precision floor or ceiling tracks, our tracked shutter panels can be configured in by-pass or bi-fold arrangements to suit the available space and the width of the opening. Tracked shutters are a particularly popular specification for open-plan kitchen-dining extensions with large sliding or bi-fold doors, and they work equally well on commercial projects — shopfronts, hotel lobby windows and restaurant glazed walls — where a clean, considered shading solution is needed across a significant glazed area.

Wooden shutters

Our solid hardwood shutters are the benchmark of the craft — joinery-grade timber, shaped and finished with the same care and precision as fine cabinetwork. Available in a range of hardwood species including basswood, paulownia and oak, each shutter is made in our own workroom to your exact window dimensions and finished in a painted or stained colour of your choice — including bespoke colour matching to existing joinery or specified RAL and NCS references for design-led projects. Handmade wooden shutters are a sound long-term investment in a property: properly maintained, a quality hardwood shutter will last for generations, and they consistently add perceived and actual value to residential properties.

Shutters

PVC shutters

Our PVC composite shutters are the practical and durable choice for kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, en-suites and any other environment with elevated moisture levels where real wood would be at risk of warping or degrading over time. Made from a high-specification PVC composite that closely replicates the appearance of painted hardwood, our faux wood shutters are dimensionally stable in any humidity condition and will not warp, crack or peel over years of daily use. They are extremely easy to clean — a wipe-down is all that's needed to maintain them in showroom condition — making them a popular choice for care homes, schools, leisure facilities and other commercial environments where ease of maintenance is a priority. Available across all shutter styles: café, full height, tier-on-tier and motorised.

Motorised shutters

Motorised shutters represent the premium end of the shutter range — combining the design quality and performance of our handcrafted plantation shutters with precision electric motorisation for effortless daily operation. Controlled via remote handset, wall switch or smart home integration, our motorised shutters are particularly valuable for hard-to-reach windows, high-level glazing and for clients with limited hand mobility for whom manually operating louvre shutters is difficult. Our motorised systems use whisper-quiet motors that cut out automatically if obstructed — safe for homes with children and pets. For design-led residential projects and hotel specifications, motorised shutters can be integrated with wider home automation systems including Lutron, Crestron, Savant and KNX.
